Common Art Week 01 - Use of Basic Shapes

For this assignment we had to use basic shapes to create a block-out for a character in a VR game. My groups theme was the Innsmouth-look from H.P Lovecraft's Shadow of Innsmouth. The people in this town are a mix of eldritch horror fish people and humans that live in this town. This is a very cool look.

I actually owned the manga adaption of The Shadow Over Innsmouth by Gou Tanabe. He is very good at illustrating the incomprehensible horrors by H.P Lovecraft and has adapted many of his stories. If you are a fan of horror I would check out his books. Here is reference I took from the manga.

2D and 3D Sprite Assignment

Hi all! So the start of the FIEA 3D art course had us create a 2D and 3D pixel art in Unreal. This was definitely a bit of nostalgia fun for me because I used to do this all the time back in the day on Minecraft with my friends. We had a whole server dedicated to making sprites.

So I decided to go with the Pokemon Lileep since it is one of my favorites. I was able to find a library of sprites online from Black and White 2 but they were very small. I scaled those up in Photoshop and got to work.

I think the final result came out pretty nice.

Now we are on to the 3D sprite. For this one I decided on a sailboat. I looked up a couple of references online to get an idea and then started on the boat. I was gonna add the rotation and bobbing at first like in the video but I decided I wanted to take it a little further to make it look like it was floating on water.

To get the pitch and roll effect of gliding across water I did the same principle of the assignment for the bobbing but then added on a Set Relative Rotation node to be able to control the pitch and roll. I think the effect came out well.
